“Architecture Before and After: From Monument to Instrument”
Practicing as mmenseArchitect(s) since 1979, for 10+ years Mike has campaigned for a radical reconsideration of the definition of architects and a consequent change in architectural education. Mike has designed more than 1500 projects in Alaska and the lower 48; receiving local, regional and national design awards. mmenseArchitects, partnered with Morphosis, won the Alaska Capitol Competition in 2005. He led the creation of “From Canvas to Steel, Ed Crittenden and the Architecture of Anchorage, 1950-2000”, a 2006 exhibit at the Anchorage Museum and has published articles on architecture and urban design. Mike chaired the AIA Committee on Design in 2012, organizing conferences in Columbus, Indiana and Seville, Spain and chaired AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Conferences in 1998 and 2009. He is currently a member of the AIA Culture Collective.
