“Sharing the Journey: The Changing Face of Design”
Design is not only what we do, but is truly who we are.  By investigating ways to establish the value and relevancy of design in our changing world, this interactive talk will challenge the audience to more mindfully approach clients, projects, colleagues, and the design of our own lives.

Cindy Beacham is a 1978 graduate of Virginia Tech’s Interior Design program. She began her design career at a Steelcase dealership, then continued as a designer and project manager at Bell Atlantic for 17 years leading signature projects such as the design of their Corporate Headquarters in Arlington, VA. She returned to Blacksburg in 1992 to complete an M.S. in Interior Design and an M.S. Arch. as well as a Ph.D. in Human/Child Development before embarking on an academic career. As a Professor at West Virginia University, Cindy led the Interior Design program for 10 years, and currently chairs the Design Studies program. Additionally, she develops mentoring and professional development programs through her consulting firm, designMIND Initiative.
